This Maitreya statue is an exact scale replica of the Maitreya Project statues currently being built in India.

Maitreya (Pali: Metteya) is the future Buddha of this world, a Bodhisattva who will eventually appear on earth, achieve complete enlightenment, and teach the pure Dharma. Maitreya Bodhisattva will be the successor of the historic Buddha. He is predicted to be a “world-ruler”, uniting those over whom he rules.

Reliquary Stupas

These Kadampa Stupas are cast, gilded, filled, sealed and consecrated here in my studio. They are filled with a roll of 108 Dharmakaya Relic Mantras and medicinal herbs picked from around the Mt. Everest region of Nepal. The gold leaf is protected by a coat of natural shellac and the consecration ritual is Rab Nä, the Great Abiding. It is possible to customise the filling with relics or cremated remains.

Culturally appropriate sensitivity to tradition is taken into account on all projects; these sacred objects are gilded for the benefit of practitioners as devotional supports to their practice. However, costs reflect the time and materials for gilding and not the appraised value of the artwork.
